Staff Profile - Robin Trangmar

Photo of Robin TrangmarRobin Trangmar is involved in the design and development of learning and teaching programmes, and the development of mentor training schemes for the lifelong learning sector. He works as a teacher educator and does consultancy work for colleges and government departments in Wales. He is an External Examiner with the University of Greenwich

He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Institute for Learning, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and holds a Master's Degree and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, as well as Summer, Winter and the UIMLA International Mountain Leader Awards.

With experience as an ambulance service manager, and Head of Business Development for a large College, he has lectured in Human Resource Management, and developed NEBS (now ILM) Management Diploma and Certificate training programmes for manufacturing and public service companies. He worked as a trainer with Portmeirion Ltd., Quinton Hazell, Alcoa (Europe), Delta 250v, and Conwy and Denbighshire County Councils. Past contracts include include designing a training system for the Kovai Hospital in Tamil Nadu, (India). He has lectured for the University of Wales, Bangor, and worked on courses franchised from the University of Wales, Newport, and the University of Glamorgan.

Always happiest near (or preferably on) a mountain, he wrote the Personal Mountaincraft (OCN) summer and winter programmes which are now included in the National Open College Network framework, and developed one of the earliest Adventure Tourism modules for an HND in Travel and Tourism course. His mountain experience includes the mountains of the UK, Austria, Italy, France (Mont Blanc, Corsica and the Pyrenees) and Switzerland, the Annapurna Region of Nepal, the Gilgit and Hunza Regions of Pakistan, and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lahaul and Spiti in North-West India. He has also worked in Iceland and Svalbard (Spitsbergen). He has worked for World Challenge Expeditions and BSES Expeditions, and provides guiding services to suit client's needs. He was a member of a mountain rescue team for 30 years. He is currently climbing Munros when time allows (but has a lot more to do).

Following a second mid-life crisis he has rediscovered a love of large motorcycles.
